Who is the course for?

This course is not just for aspiring graphic designers. It’s great for small companies who may want to be able to create and edit their own marketing or business material, creating advertisements or logos. It also lends itself to anybody currently in or transitioning into any creative environment.

No artistic skills are required as you can use the program to create freehand drawings or import photographs to use as a guide to trace and recolour creating your own work of art.

What is the course about?

Adobe Illustrator is typically used to create illustrations, charts, graphs, cartoons of real photographs and much more.

Adobe Illustrator is one of Adobe’s most versatile computer applications. On this beginner essentials, non-qualification based course, you will have the opportunity to properly familiarize yourself with the Illustrator user interface.   From then on you will learn a number of functions and the tools needed to create basic vector illustrations. You will also be looking at creating documents, placing images, and working with text. You will learn how to use colour, then how to apply it to control the appearance of the objects within your document. The course aims at giving you the knowledge and skills needed to create artwork and export projects confidently for different media.

(Vector images can create beautiful works of art that can be resized without losing quality of the image).

Study Programme

During the course we will cover:

 

·       The Illustrator User Interface, Tools,  Panels and Workspace

·       Setting up new documents specific to project requirements

·       Using the Selection tools  for selecting and editing

·       Creating and editing basic vector shapes

·       Text and typography

·       Applying and modifying colour

·       Placing images

·       Working with artboards and layers

·       Saving documents specific to project requirements

 

This course will be taught in a PC Computer room, the application runs the same on both Windows and Mac based operating systems with minor differences that will be covered if needed.

Please note:  the software version used is Adobe Illustrator CS6. This is not the latest version but will still provide the same knowledge needed to use Adobe Illustrator CC

Do I need to bring anything?

Bring a notepad and pen as notes of shortcuts and key information will be helpful to takeaway with you.  Catering facilities at the college on the weekend is limited so it is advisable to bring your own refreshments.   We ask that you take the time to read our policy on cancellations and the refund of course fees.
