The Basketball Academy is a performance programme developed by New College to meet the needs and aspirations of all committed players. It is designed for students aged 16-19 years who wish to develop their skills. It offers competitive Basketball and training in combination with full or part-time education.
New College is affiliated to England Basketball, giving players the opportunity to compete at U18 National League level and U19 College Basketball.
- The Programme
Training takes place indoors and in the fitness suite, with matches during the week and at weekends.
The programme caters for all abilities and includes matches against local, regional and national league teams.
Coaching will be undertaken by England Basketball qualified coaches, experienced in National League and County Basketball.
Alongside the Basketball training you will take a full or part-time academic programme. You can choose from our AS/A Level and GCSE programme, or from our range of vocational and BTEC courses. Most choices can be accommodated by our flexible timetable.
- Where it will lead
Players will have the opportunity to access the England Basketball performance programme pathways.
All players will have the opportunity to gain coaching and officiating qualifications, broadening the opportunities for future employment.
- Course requirements
Students of all abilities are welcome, male and female; commitment to the programme and dedication to improve your skills is essential. There will be a trail process which all are welcome to attend.

You will be asked for an annual contribution of £60 towards the cost of being an Academy player and the benefits of being affiliated to England Basketball and the National League programme.
Training and competition is up to 10 hours per week, which will include team and individual programmes. Flexibility with hours is given to students who have a demanding academic programme.
There will be trials starting in the May half term followed by a pre-season training programme.
New College offers excellent sports facilities. Training takes place in the Sports Hall and fitness suite, with matches being held at appropriate venues.
