This Level 2 qualification will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge required to work in the beauty industry. You will learn how to carry out a variety of beauty treatments, such as skincare, eye enhancements, waxing, nail treatments and the application of makeup. You will have the opportunity to take part in competitions that will enhance your CV. You will be based in Distinction Salons within the college where you will study all aspects of your course.

After completing the Level 2 Diploma you can continue on to study Beauty Therapy at Level 3 choosing the Electrical Therapy or Holistic massage route or one of the connected routes into Hairdressing, Holistic Therapies or Performing Arts. You may also choose to gain employment in the industry and study at level 3 on a work based apprenticeship programme.

High standards of personal presentation are expected in the industry, and you should be ready to demonstrate a professional manner and appearance.

As part of the course you will practise all services with other learners so you should be prepared to take part in giving and receiving all hair treatments.

  • Study Programme

You will complete the course over one year two evenings a week with much of this time spent developing your practical skills in our dedicated Beauty Salon. You will also learn the essential underpinning knowledge of the human body systems.

The units will include:

Facial skincare                        Manicure and pedicure treatments

Eye treatments                        Waxing techniques

Makeup application

You are expected to undertake salon duties to support reception, health, safety and security assessments throughout your course and will also be invited to compete in the department end of year show.

  • Assessment

The qualification is assessed mainly through a portfolio of practical and written work. Some units will require you to complete externally set exams to show knowledge of the theory. You will work closely with your tutor, who will regularly check and discuss your progress.   All of your practical assessments are carried out in Distinction Salons where clients pay for their treatments and services. Please be aware that to support your qualification aims may require you to provide models to practise specific treatments and for assessment.

  • Expenses

There are no hidden extras as your course fees include;

Students will have the opportunity to enrol on enrichment activities during the Distinction Industry Week in December which are delivered by external companies and your tutors. Most of these sessions are delivered free of charge although there may be an equipment cost for some activities.  There may also be optional expenses for trips to exhibitions, events and trade shows in the UK (approx. £15 - £40 each).
